Did you change your spring break plans because of the virus? From what to what?

No.

How did you feel when you were informed the remainder of the semester would be held online?

Intrigued by how it would be done – I’ve been amazed by the efficiency of administration, faculty and staff!

Where will you be living while courses are held online? Is this a change from usual?

Yes – my son and I are staying with my mother and niece in Silas, AL until we can return to work.

What has been your experience with moving classes online? What’s good? What’s not so good?

I haven’t really had any direct experience with moving classes online

How has the virus (and the precautions taken to prevent it spreading) impacted your daily life?

Bad: Unable to work in the office and be able to collaborate with my co-workers face to face; different types of distractions (my son trying to get his online schoolwork done, etc.); challenging using only one monitor – takes longer to process things; finding a quiet spot to work is a challenge also. Good: Besides not having worn makeup, had to fix my hair, and haven’t had to dress up :), I’ve been able to see my son more and have been able to spend time with my mom and niece, which is usually about one weekend every other month, if that often; have saved money due to cooking more and not eating out so often; learning patience and learning to stay calm during the “unknown”; I believe we’re ALL learning to be with each other better since we’re sort of forced to. 🙂

How worried are you about getting the virus?

Fairly worried

Do you know anyone who has gotten COVID-19?

Yes.

Are you going out? Where do you go and what is it like?

I’ve gone to the local pharmacy – you call them to see if your prescription is ready, let them know when you’re heading that way, and if they see you pull up, someone comes to your car (wearing gloves, mask, and head covering)…if not, you call them to let them know you’re there. Have been to the local Dollar General once – they only let 6 people in the store at a time…you wait in your car until those 6 come out of the store. No one is to go down an aisle if someone else is already there – they also have tape marking safe distances to stand when in line to check out as well as where to stand WHILE checking out.

What is giving you hope and/or strength right now?

I’ve been trying to look up good news stories as well as keeping up with the bad. My grandmother used to remind us that “this too shall pass” – she was a very spriitual lady and read her bible faithfully…my mother (her daughter) is the same way, so those sayings and beliefs that were shared with me growing up are truly helpful right now. My church has services online as well as group meetings on FB and just chats with whoever would like to join – it’s great to be able to stay in touch. My family and I tend to try to find the humor in things when we can…so there have been TONS of jokes. 🙂

Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about what you’re feeling or experiencing right now?

I’m very thankful that my little one and I were able to stay with my mom and niece during this time. I would not be able to do my work and help my son with his schoolwork as well without any help. They have been such wonderful support to us and I can’t thank them enough!!
