Description/Context: A stand alone editorial cartoon featuring a dismayed Supreme Court Justice Abe Fortas whose judicial robes are on fire. It was discovered that Fortas had accepted an annual $20,000-a-year retainer for life, from Wall Street broker Louis Wolfson, ostensibly to help Wolfson avoid prosecution for securities fraud. Demands rose on all sides for his resignation. He did resign later in the day after this cartoon appeared, becoming the first Supreme Court Justice to resign under threat of impeachment.
