Title: Death of the Gulf Islands National Seashore
Medium: Ink and graphite on paper
Size: 11 in. x 19 in.
Description/Context: Accompanying the editorial ‘People Must Decide Future of Seashore’ noting the need for a county decision on the Seashore following the meeting with Congressman Sikes. The report of the Seashore Committee of the Pensacola Area Chamber Commerce is imminent. A key issue is the amount of beachfront to transfer to the Seashore, eight miles has been requested by proponents; anything less may not meet the size requirements of the National Park Service for a park. The cartoon shows a dead bird with an arrow sprouting from its chest, below the quote “The Gulf Islands Seashore is probably dead if you adhere to 4.7 miles. – Bob Sikes.”
