Description/Context: | A stand-alone editorial cartoon featuring Bob Dole wrapped up in the gasoline hoses of critics and the polls while Bill Clinton looks on. An increase in gas prices to $1.36 a gallon (an increase of a nickel in two weeks) led Clinton to release oil from the Strategic Reserve to drive down prices while Dole called for repeal of the 1993 gas tax increase. Critics, noting the lack of gas lines and shortages, saw these moves as political. |
