Title: | Latin American Alliance |
Medium: | Ink and graphite on paper |
Size: | 10 ½ in. x 18 in., matted |
Description/Context: | Accompanying the Robert Berrellez column ‘Alliance Hopes Fade in Brazilian Corner’ noting the poverty of Brazil. President Kennedy initiated Alliance for Progress, a plan of economic aid in cooperation with other Latin American countries to improve their social and economic status. The influence of Cuba as well as emerging dictatorships hampered the success of the program. The cartoon features Uncle Sam looking at two small Latin Americans; a representative of the Alliance for Progress and a Fidel Castro (marked ‘Cuban buildup’). |
