Residents by Race

The first federal census of Pensacola was conducted in 1900. The census reported the racial makeup of the Blocks binary terms: black or white. Among the 189 residents in 1900, around 79 per cent were black while 21 per cent were white. Throughout the decades, the white residents in the blocks steadily represented a little less than a quarter of the total residents until around the 1920s.
