1921-1930

1921 to 1930 reflects a period of residential and commercial growth within The Blocks of the Belmont-DeVilliers neighborhood. Continued racial segregation and deliberate social disenfranchisement of Pensacola’s black population, fueled the area’s development demographically as an African-American community teeming with minority owned businesses, organizations, and culture. Throughout the 1920s the area’s population converged primarily from the Southeastern United States as individuals and families migrated to The Blocks in search of employment opportunities offered by the Belmont-DeVilliers area’s thriving community businesses.
