What has been your experience with moving classes online? What’s good? What’s not so good?
As a librarian, the biggest change is not having face-to-face contact with students and my colleagues.
How has the virus (and the precautions taken to prevent it spreading) impacted your daily life?
I’m fortunate to say my daily life has not changed too much, with the exception that I now work from home. Working three feet away from my husband is fun and challenging, and we now take daily walks enjoying the sunshine and birdsong. We also join Jim’s family for a Sunday movie night, where we all meet inside a Zoom room to watch a fun movie together while munching on our favorite snacks. We’ve been extra cautious with groceries, using Instacart and wiping down/quarantining groceries before we consume.
How worried are you about getting the virus?
I’m definitely nervous about it.
Do you know anyone who has gotten COVID-19?
Yes.
Are you staying in? What are you doing to pass the time?
I am staying in and have taken advantage of the library’s Great Courses video through our Kanopy database. I’m also watching a lot of Youtube videos on videography and definitely binge-watching favorite shows on Netflix.
Are you going out? Where do you go and what is it like?
We take our cat for a walk around the neighborhood during good weather!
What is giving you hope and/or strength right now?
I’m naturally a positive person so I do feel like as humans, we are resilient and we will get through this. I’m definitely using this time to be more reflective about life, my family, and my work, all of which are giving me strength everyday. I also try to be grateful for all that we have right now rather than live in fear.
Is there anything else you’d like to tell us about what you’re feeling or experiencing right now?
I do hope that when I am an old lady, I will look back on this time and remember that I used my time well, and helped those who might not have others to lean on during such a unique time in history. I think it is important for us to be kind to ourselves as well as others during this time.
