The 1910 census reflects the changing character of Pensacola as residents relocated from other states. Census workers recorded 124 entries for residents’ birthplace. Although the records include one resident from Massachusetts and one from Wisconsin, far fewer residents of The Blocks claimed Northern states as their birthplace than they had in the 1900 census. The majority of Belmont-DeVilliers residents hailed from Southern states. With 49 residents claiming Florida as their birthplace and the remaining 73 from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, native Florida residents found themselves outnumbered by those born in other, more rural states. In 1910, more residents of The Blocks claimed Alabama as their birthplace than any other place.
